Improve care, reduce infant mortality
Help us give the very young in Indonesia a healthy start

What
In Indonesia, 61% of low birth weight newborns die within 90 days of birth. The mortality of children younger than 1 year is 7 times higher than in the Netherlands. The mortality of mothers who die during pregnancy or childbirth is even 35 times higher. If one considers these numbers in relation to the birth rate (number of live births per year: 5 million in Indonesia, 180 thousand in the Netherlands), the difference is dramatic. This is unequal, unfair and unacceptable .

Why
The main cause is the lack of accessibility and availability of effective medical diagnostics and care in Indonesia for the very young and their mothers during and after pregnancy.

For whom
In the Netherlands, access to and availability of medical care during and after pregnancy is well organised for all pregnant women and newborns: obstetric care, 13- and 20-week ultrasound, non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), heel prick, health clinics. Disorders are recognised early.
That is not the case in Indonesia. Disorders are recognised too late or not at all with unacceptably high maternal and child mortality rates.

How we help
The Ineta Aryani Foundation wants to remedy this by transferring modern molecular early diagnosis from the Netherlands to Indonesia: the 'tuRNAround comes ' project.
We will do this in collaboration with academic centers in those areas of Indonesia where the need is greatest, ie Java.
